The Human Side Of Company Mergers

A researcher for Iowa State University relates how it felt to be part of a dynamic team at Pioneer, only to be downsized years later at DuPont and packing his office under supervision so he wouldn't take anything with him.  It's still humiliating.

But, that's business, isn't it.  Nothing personal, just business.  That's the environment we're in these days.

Don't know when that happened but maybe DuPont took a lesseon from the Clinton Whitehouse. People taking things that don't belong to them.

Businesses have for many years fired people on the spot and supervised their departure.  They don't want them to have time to bug the computers, steal disks, etc.  Nothing special about that, but it is humiliating to a person who was surprised to be fired and had been a loyal company employee.
