Here in Ohio we have an estate tax that kicks in at 338K. The local newspaper had an article stating this only affected 7.2% of all estates last year. Not argueing pro or con on the tax I was amazed by such a small number of estates valued at 338K and above. But then again, I have read where there are now more people over 65 with a home mortgage than those who's home is paid for.
