What makes you think they will take it? Beef looks exceedingly overpriced, especially

if one considers we need to make meat out of about 10% of the dairy herd.

Re: When the Chinese take all their

I think "they" will pretty much leave food alone.   Things are already so intertwined these days, I`ll bet a lot of homework has to be done to know exactly what to boycott or tariff, like a "American" Dodge pickup assembled in Mexico with Chinese and Brazilian parts....well???  Who`s butt would get hurt the most, in tariffs?

From what I hear, beef is too expensive over there and only the rich Chinese can afford it.  Like the pork, China needs it and they have financial interest already in US pork production and processing, so they pert near have to take it.

Naomi Blohm on M2M wasn`t exactly overcome with fear.   The whole M2M show it good to watch because there`s a story on Florida tomato growers getting screwed on NAFTA....not everyone has been thrilled with it.

Re: When the Chinese take all their

Joke: 300 million Chinese walk into a Beijng McDonald's Hamburger joint. The kid behind the counter says, "you know, we don't get many Chinese in here." In unison, the 300 million Chinese reply, "yes you capitalistic pig, and for exploiting the workers of the world and at prices like these, you won't be getting many more.

Moral: Chinese over these past forty years have grown accustomed to having meat in their daily diet. As such, they may not take too kindly to their central committee leaders if that diet is interrupted in any meaningful way. Civil unrest is always unpleasant, but in 3rd world countries it is oftentimes like riding a very angry tiger.

If you are a Chi Com leader, "sic semper, para bellum"...I guess.

Will the Smithfield pork be subject to the tariffs?  Does anyone know and will anyone ever know?

Re: When the Chinese take all their

Heard on WHO Big Show that the tariffs would be for all US produced pork.   But if you think about it, if the Chinese imported only Smithfield and all their other US sourced pork, it would take pressure off of all US pork.

But I look at this tariff on pork business, does it hurt the 3 farrow to finish guys left in the state or does it hurt Christenson "family" Farms, Tyson "family" Farms, Murphy "Family" Farms, ect...   The Bigshot farmer with the pliers on his belt is just in it for the manure.   The 3 farrow to finish guys left have their niche market with Niman or Lynch which goes to the white tablecloth places in San Francisco.

No China has a tiger by the tail, their people expect a better diet and though the swords rattle the raw food is a easier pill to swallow than the huge benefit they get from shipping finished I-Phones over here.

At the end of the day, at least this finally talking about trade, brings out for the public that hey, China owns a lot of the US produced pork and  the question of how far are we really from being a colony of China?

One thing is for sure the steel market is showing the effects.  Go out and buy a handful of pipe fittings and start making monthly payments
