Pork Powerhouses 2012

Well, it's that time of year again: Pork Powerhouses time! Here's Betsy Freese's exclusive report that shows a lot of jittery nerves about rising feed costs among some of North America's biggest hog farms.

Seeing any evidence of this situation in your area? How about on your farm?

Re: Pork Powerhouses 2012

I wonder how many of these pork producers are fully integrated, that is, process and sell their own pork?  To that extent, to what degree can they affect the market by releasing or holdinb back captive supplies, or is that an issue at all with the numbers of independed producers?

That's a good point, Jim. Another interesting thing to note here this morning is USDA's Grain Stocks numbers that show there's not much rationing going on, and a lot of folks are pointing to the livestock sector. One analyst told me there's still an awful lot of hogs on feed, and not much rationing will happen until those numbers go down. Here's more on that.
