Wall Street Journal meat survey

A year ago, pork cutout was $130/cwt and retail pork averaged $2.53 a pound.  Now pork cutout is $68/cwt and retail pork averages $3.41 per pound.  fubar

Extreme levels.  Packers buy beef about 4 times the price of pork.  Grocery price beef at $5.69/lb and pork at $3.41.  Packers are paying more than what beef cutout is worth.  Beef, pork and chicken in cold storage are all at their highest levels for over 5 years.  Interesting times.
