2-135 White Tractor Any comments.

Looking at a 2-135 White Tractor with 7900 hours, any comments on these tractors, things i should be concerned about, problem areas?

The tractor was made here in Charles City, Iowa . We are a AGCO and New Holland dealer Charles City. 2-135 were a good tractor. Engine gets 4 to 5,000 hours the old one would brake rings on the pistons , On the Ser 3 they change that. If you see a lot smoke come out the breather tube she going to need a set of pistons. I grew up on oliver and white tractors. I've always felt that the engines and transmissions were fairly bullet-proof. I've also always thought that the hydraulics and electical systems were poor.  a 2-135 would by far outpull a jd of it's era, say a 4430 or 4440. this all said, i've moved to mostly jd.

Do you think it would handle a 650 Bushel grain cart?

Ummmm, maybe?? whites are heavier than john deeres of the same hp, so you have that going for you. If you have alot of hills, any 140 hp tractor would be under powered for a 650 cart. (in my opinion) My father had a 2-155 that had lots of power and I think they were just aa turned up 135. You probablycould get into the pump and not hurt the rest of the tractor. sorry for being so vague. I have a 4555 on a 500 bu. cart and it's a good match.

The 2-135 is heavy and rugged  and will probably handle it if you are careful. It probably weighs as much as many 170-180 hp tractors, but the wheelbase is short and it probably will bob up and down on the road with something with tons of tongue weight like a big grain cart. We use one on a big Knight manure spreader and it handles it OK. Not thrilled with the transmission, it is durable, but pretty crude shifting on the go. Our 135 we bought used  just got new injectors and it made a world of difference in power, from the seat of the pants test against other tractors we have, I would say it is pushing 170 hp. and yes, it had been turned up a bit, but doesn't smoke now. I think it had been turned up by the previous owner to compensate for the worn injectors.  It was a super easy engine to work on for me and I think the 478 is one of the best engines of that era.
