4755, 4850, or even a higher houred 8200. I'd rather have an older tractor minus the hours. Not a whole lot of difference between a 4640 and a 4840. 20 hp, and I think the 3 pt is probably rated for more lift. Go 50 series or newer if you need front wheel assist, and the power shifts are improved on these models compared to the older ones.

I agree with a 4640. I have one that'll be the last thing sold when I go broke. They'll have to pry it from my cold dead hands. One downfall is that it does not like to start when it's cold (kinda like me).

Re: Best 150-170 HP Tractor?

You're only going to get opinions from people that relate to their personal experience. Mine is with the Case/IH Magnum series. My 7120 is a fine tractor..but the injector pump and turbo aren't as good as the 7200 series. There is also improved shifting on the 7200-8900 series. After that...there isn't a whole lot of difference. You can turn a 7120 at 170 horsepower all day long....it has the same radiator as the 7130, the same transmission...the same air filter...the same axles. Actually, I think the only difference might be the lift capacity of the hitch. The 7200 series has a newer style radiator using aluminum and plastic....which is better I can't say. I'm old school, so I'll take one that can be soldered over the alum/plastic model. All in all, there really isn't anything I dislike about those tractors..but the turning radius when the MFWD tires are set in to run down 30" rows. If you switch them so that the dishes are in...the tractor turns as short as anything, but won't be able to do in row work.

I thought he was wanting recommendations for the "best" tractor rather than the "best ones to avoid".
