Broken engine block

Ok, I bought a used tractor,  didn't see the "patch" behind the air condition compressor until I got the tractor home,   well I was hoping that it was fixed good, No it wasn't.  I had the tractor for 3 years, now the patch has cracked and is leaking oil.   Now what,  Its on a john deere 4040, I believe its a 404 engine.  Can I fix it with JB weld or something, or should I just tear it down and have someone weld it, or should I just scrap the engine?       The bad thing is the engine doesn't use any oil,  it has 7700 hours, so I'm assuming it was over hauled once,   why they didn't fix the block right is beyound me.

any suggestions

Re: Broken engine block

Dont buy used tractors. No one can ever fix them right, as evidenced here.

Re: Broken engine block

Could get another block.

Try the JB weld, got nothing to lose.

Re: Broken engine block

It has ran 3 years.Looks to me like it was fixed pretty good.I would not throw the block away the 404 was a great engine.Try some JB weld.Make sure it is cleaned up right.
