CIH 6088
Anybody with experiance care to comment on the good the bad and the ugly on the 6088. I am looking at a 2009 if there were any problems that were fixed by then. Will it handle a 30 foot head in 60 bushel beans?

Re: CIH 6088
Good morning gurly - I have a 13 IH 6130 - The 60 series - like the 6130 - Was based on the 2588 - The 2588 has around 305 horse - I believe the 6088 has about the same horse - my 6130 has around 320 + a power rise to 360 dumping on the go . I have a 30 foot platform and NO problems with it cutting beans - I was impressed the first year I ran it to tell the truth . But if the 6088 do's have 305 hp then It could be alittle short sometimes , I don't know if it has the power boost or not .
I did find out after I got mine - that IH offers a extended wear package on the combine - as in the induction cone and augers - I was surprized by this and asked the IH dealer about WHY ??? He said it was a way to sell combines and a lower cost - move more machines ! I was NOT happy about this - This was my 3rd season with mine and from the way it looks inside - My guess is that is do's NOT have the good stuff in the gut's - like the bed augers , clean grain augers , I need to check the cone this summer , Just something for you to check on thought .
Over all I really like mine - Have aways had a IH combine on this farm and this one is by far the most impressive we have had . I can NEVER remember the name of the engine in mine - but it's made in Italy and has the dep on it - I was afraid how this would work , but it is just fine - just need to keep it serviced - there are 3 filters on it just for the dep .
Good luck
Ken

Re: CIH 6088
Thanks for your experiance ECIN. I've had red combines for a lot of years but our area just doesn't seem to have 60 series out there to ask about. I tend to keep them a long time, so I'm a few series behind. Are you using a 3020 bean head or another. I am still using a 1020 that works well but am told it won't fit the 6088. I've been warned away from the 2020s by a couple of people, you have any experience with that model? Again Thank you.

Re: CIH 6088
I got the 3020 - I was told by many GOOD friends that I would trust that the 2020 was a BIG POS ! I have got along just fine with the 3020 . I had a 1020 -- as you for many years - that was a good platform ! But I have the 3020 cuting just as good - I think - lol
Same here - just not a lot of 60 series - most are 70's or 80's series - Mater of fact - I may have one of the only 60's around here - Really didn't need that big of one but the price was right -
The 1020 would not fit on mine , anyway = 2 new heads - I looked forever for a good used head and they were all a POS - most out there were 2020 's ,even the corn heads - they all needed new everything - so I spent the big bucks and am happy I did on the heads .
Feel free to ask away - I will tell you what I know -

Re: CIH 6088
The 3020 bean head is so much better than any of it's predessors that's almost hard to believe. We bought one because our old heads would not fit the 7030, and were pleasantaly surprised at how much better the driv configuration, and all the rest of the stuff was....absolutely no comparison. Previously, I prided myself in being able to overcome; through force of will and A LOT of shop work; the awful, factory defect(s) in the earlier head.; Now, i feel like I'm on vacation.

Re: CIH 6088
Thank you guys for sharing your knowledge. Got the 6088 bought. Went for a new 3020 bean head. I have a two year old Harvestec corn head I can change the mounting plate and drive couplers on so that isn't too bad of expense. I found as you said ECIN that the used heads were not something I wanted to go for. There was an obvious reason they had been traded
