Drive Over Pit
Is there a way to convert a portable auger wtih swing antenna to a drive-over? I have to move the auger around, so can't embed it. It would be nice to be able to drive over and not have to swing the hopper all the time.

Re: Drive Over Pit
Neat idea. Thanks. Pretty pricey for my operation, but certainly something to keep in mind.

Re: Drive Over Pit
Jim,
I always wanted to build a concrete pit that my swing hopper could fit in but my binsite is cramped and I would have needed two. I've seen it done and it's possible but it's a real project to dig out and frame up a structure to place the hopper in with a grate that can be dropped in over it. You need a loader to put the swing hopper down in the pit and take it out and then you have all the usual problems with moisture and crud that you have in any pit. I ended up getting a 12 volt electric swing hopper attachment with remote control which lets my helpers or me drive in with the semi or tractor and wagons and swing the hopper into position from the cab without having to have the auger tractor running. It saves those extra trips in and out of the cab. There are several different brands but I ended up getting an Auger Jogger which is the simplest and easiest to put on in my opinion. No drilling needed. We all love it.

Re: Drive Over Pit
I could describe it but it's easier just to go to augerjogger.com and you can see pictures and a video.

Re: Drive Over Pit
Baasch makes a nice one, right here in Nebraska
Picture wouldn't load, so here's the link:
http://www.beavervalleysupply.com/sectiona/baasch.htm
They make them from 3,000 to 8,000 bushels per hour capacity.
