Good pickup tires for gravel?

The best tires I`ve had for gravel wear and traction is the Firestone TransForce AT.   They`ve wore like iron and in the $200 range.  But the last set I`ve had the face of the tire seems to separate with still a lot of wear left.  I don`t know if Firestone cheapened up the tire or what, but I`m not the only one with that problem.

Some of my friends are trying a Toyo tire and are yet to see if they`re any good.   The trouble with a good wearing tire is road noise on the highway,  the TransForce seemed to be quiet and wear well, I think it`ll be hard to find a better tire than what they were.

Re: Good pickup tires for gravel?

I was told to buy a tire without a lot of small sipes, as they gather up gravel and it just chews them out.  I used to run a lot of gravel roads and that advice seemed good to me.

Re: Good pickup tires for gravel?

I've had the Toyo Open Country 2 for about 30000 miles on my 3/4 ton and they have been really good. They are't extremely loud and have worn evenly. They also have a 60,000 mile warranty.

Thanks, if this set of TransForce doesn`t stand up better, I`ll try a set of Toyos.
