Grain Augers

I am needing to buy an auger mainly for unloading bins.  The main place it will be used I will not be able to use pto.  The auger I am looking at has a gas powered motor option.  Has anyone used that type and would that be a better route to go instead of an electric motor.  Would one have more capacity than the other?  Am looking at a 10" 41' auger.  Thanks for the help.

Re: Grain Augers

If you are going to run a 10 inch auger at full capacity, it is going to take a serious gas engine. You might want to look at a belt conveyor with an electric motor. I think their hp requirements are less considering their capacity. spendy, tho.

Re: Grain Augers

I second the conveyor.  Get a Batco with the electric motor at the top it is always balanced so you can lift it up to your chest and push it around.  I don't think you can do that with any 10 x 41.  Super gentle on grain and nice and quiet so you can talk when you are standing next to it.

Re: Grain Augers

LIke the other guys said, electric drive belt conveyor would be my first choice. Quiet, light, low power requirement. Cost is the down side but it should last forever on most farms.

If you go with the auger, I'd still prefer electric. Its going to take a big heavy gas engine to run that size auger full capacity.

Re: Grain Augers

I'd be really surprised if you could run a 10" x 41 foot auger..with any less than a 15 horsepower electric motor. But my question is this...do you have 10" augers running out of your bin?
