High-Speed Planting Cover
For our Mid-March cover of Successful Farming magazine, we picked up Big Daddy’s unique style to promote one of the biggest stories in agriculture: high-speed planting and its positive impact on today’s growers.
World-renowned illustrator "Big Daddy" Ed Roth was the face of custom car culture and the need for speed from the late 50s to the early 70s. His distinctive illustrations centered around his favorite character, Rat Fink, and super modified street rods with overblown engines and huge tires. His one-of-a-kind style graced t-shirts, posters, and other memorabilia that lovers of fast cars flocked to and made popular for more than 20 years.
Big Daddy was also a custom car designer and fabricator and one of his cars, the Beatnik Bandit, is on display at the National Automobile Museum, in Reno, Nevada. The Beatnik Bandit was one of the very first Hot Wheels cars produced and remains a perennial favorite of car lovers around the world.
What do you think of this unique cover? Do you remember Rat Fink?

Re: High-Speed Planting Cover
Thanks for the positive feedback! I’ll pass it along to our art director.
Ken, I’ll admit I’m too young to remember Rat Fink or Big Daddy. But I have to admit – I love his style!
