Re: JimMeade....Oliver Tractors

I had four and farmed with them all these years.  Recently, I'm downsizing so I sold an 1855 and a 1550.  I still have an 1855 with spin out duals that I like and a tricycle gear 1755 with an 1855 engine in it.  Still use and like both of them.  I've been able to make almost any kind of repairs on the tractors.

Recently, I bought a M6-111 Kubota as a "retirement" tractor.  It's the one I'll have when all others are gone.  AC that works, a radio I can hear and FWA.  I bought it with a loader.

The Olivers have been money-makers for me but are slowly wearing out, as I am.  I'll probably have these two around as long as I'm actively farming.

There are still a number of local farmers running Olivers, and still some Oliver mechanics when I get stumped.

Re: JimMeade....Oliver Tractors

Thanks Jim.....I was pretty sure you were the one farming with Olivers.  Have  some Mennonite's move in the area from Penn. or Ohio that run 1950 and1650 or may be they are 55's .  Other than a 77 and 1850 owned by neighbor I rent barn and shed space from ....not many left in the area.

Always liked the older Oliver's.....Dad owned two...both 70's....46 and maybe 48 ?? This was in the mid-50's. They were not any more HP than the Allis tractors he owned but did have 6 - speed transmissions which worked better on our old Case chopper

I farm with 70's IH tractors...1456...1466...52 SM and 66 Case 730.  Had to get Case in the mix after Tenneco bought IH lol

Yes, I still have a few of them as well.  Then some of the White tractors.  I'm the same as you, they are wearing out and I am too.  My grandpa had one and then my dad had them as well.  Dealer was in Friend, NE

Re: JimMeade....Oliver Tractors

I think somebody on this site once had a couple Olivers that had 454 Chevy V8s swapped in them. I always wondered how hard that was to do, and if swapping a 6.2 or 6.5 Chevy diesel might be a workable way to replace the old worn out Waukesha engines.
