Load Max gooseneck trailer??
Found a 22foot Load Max gooseneck trailer on farm sale. Auctioneer said it was 10 ton , but has single tires upon inspection and 15000# GVWR. Looks like new and also has hitch for semi fifth wheel . My question is how much over load can you go. It is a two axle , single tire very heavy built trailer. Want to haul 8-9 ton backhoe at low speeds from farm to farm , township roads, not on highway or thru city or interstate.
also can use semi and or heavy 3/4 ton pickup if one is better on heavy loads. Would i destroy it or can the gooseneck handle it ? Not worried about weight limit for fines , just for breaking ramps or axles. will it handle it or should i stay away and buy the ten ton tandem dual wheel trailer. thanks in advance. would be a nice trailer for everything else i would haul.

Re: Load Max gooseneck trailer??
If you are committed to overloading it, let's look at a few things before you buy. The thing that will get you first is the tires. See if their weight ratings even adds up to 15,000#. It may have a pair of 7,500# axles, but often they will put 2800# tires on pretty flimsy wheels, so you'd be maxed out tire wise at 11,200#. Second, the trailer weighs at least 5,000#, so you've got maybe a 10,000# capacity. If you carry 18,000# on it you will have to try to get as much weight on the truck as possible. Might be too much for a 3/4 ton. Slow and easy would be good and keep off the embargoed bridges.

Re: Load Max gooseneck trailer??
I have a similar Big Tex trailer. The weight rating on tire sidewalls don't add up to the 14K rating of the trailer. I don't know the exact number and it's sitting in too much snow to go out and look but I remember looking at the tire rating when I bought it last summer. Get the dual wheeled 10 ton.

Re: Load Max gooseneck trailer??
The weight rating on the tire sidewall states 3042#. 235-85-16 tires. That's barely 6 ton. Meaning at least a ton has to be supported by the truck. I haven't weighed it but I estimate the trailer itself to weigh 4000#.
