In mid-February John Deere is introducing an entirely new planter. They haven’t revealed any details yet. But what they are saying is that the planter will be revolutionary.
Having covered machinery introductions for over 30 years I expect this will be a huge launch . . .maybe even more monumental than the 1974 introduction of the MaxEmerge planter with its Tru-Vee double-disk openers and parallel linkage.
So what do you think the new planter will look like?

ABILITY TO VRT interchangeable seed products ON THE FLY.................example, load 2 or 3 different hybrids on the planter............then as you move thru a variable field the different hybrids are interchanged as prescription dictates as well as VRT..........ON THE FLY and SEAMLESS
Well deere did just buy the plant that was making the DB (Deere Bauer) seires planter so I bet they are taking that design and making it more common on all there planters. I was told that the DB seires was a plnater that you could run for life, and just the Deere ones would be a ten year planter then through away
Yes, those DB planters are the standard of the industry. I'm working on an article for Successful Farming about their asking prices. Late model (1 to 3 year old) DB60 24R30 (24 row, 30 inch) are going for around $200,000. I saw a 2013 DB60 sell for $180,000 at auction just a month ago. They are a premium purchase . . .but are a premium machine.

You aren't the only one who is wishing for a multi-hybrid planter, Mizzou! We've heard a lot of buzz about the concept. But so far, it's only a concept.
What other features do you think would be revolutionary? The new Deere planter is promoted as being faster. How fast do you think it can plant while maintaining planting accuracy?
Jeesie; To answer the speed question.... Not as fast as their operator manual will say. This is based on observations, not actual experience. Maybe they will catch up to some of the other manufactures accuracy.
Speaking of speeds, what speed do most people prefer? Not talking BTO's, I'm talking about producers who strive for quality not quantity. I try to run between 5 and 5-1/2 on all commodities, am I in the norm?
LCF, I run a no-till operation, why do you travel at lesser speeds on those acres? Before I switched to no-till I was using the same planter on conventional till acres running in the same speed range of 5-5.5 MPH with nearly identical results.
