I have had very good luck in hard, dry conditions planting soybeans with a planter, and then simply driving between the rows, and running the planter through again. Basically, you get the row spacing of a split row, but with two passes instead of one. Sometimes the split row planters I have seen need weight added to get enough downpressure on every row to work good, with the wider-spaced units, that isn't a problem. However, don't do this in wet conditions, or the compaction over the rows from the wheel tracks will kill you. However, if it is wet enough for that to be a concern, the ground should be soft enough that the drill will work fine.
