Poly snouts vs.. tin

I am probably buying an old 643 corn head with tin snouts, somewhat wrinkled.  I've no experience with poly snouts.  Are they a big improvement over tin, or not really?  I have a few stones.  Any recommendation regarding a brand?

Thanks,

Dennis

Re: Poly snouts vs... tin

Last fall I destroyed an outside snoot on my 843. Poly was cheaper than tin so it was replaced with poly. I ran about 300 ac after that and couldn't see a lot of difference between them. Can't say I could justify spending a lot more money on a 893 vs 843 just to get poly. As in a previous post, snapping rolls, deck plates, chains, sprockets, etc would be my deciding factors. HTH. Re: Poly snouts vs... tin

Thanks for your advice guys.  I replaced chains and upper sprockets.  Plan on going with blemished tin for now.  100 acres of corn really doesn't justify much excess.

You will appreciate poly if your corn is down.

Re: Poly snouts vs.. tin

Tin does work, but Poly outperforms tin in many harvest conditions.  Run 2 rows of poly next to 2 rows of tin on the same header and you will see a difference.  Check out GVL Poly at www.gvlpoly.com
