S10 alternator
The alternator went out on my S10. I bought a replacement and took it home.....good grief. What a job. I thnk I'll let it sit overnight and think about it in the morning.

Re: S10 alternator
...I don't blame you..I absolutely hate working on the newer vehicles. You have to take everything off the engine before you finally get to the problem..LOL.

Re: S10 alternator
4 cylinder. I got he serpentine belt off. I can see one bolt and I think I can get at it from underneath, but am not sure of the other bolt. Looks like I'll have to take the wires off after the alternator is dropped down. Old eyes, big hands, a sore shoulder ....I can see why people hire this stuff done.

That's one reason leasing is popular. You always have a newer vehicle under warranty.

Re: S10 alternator
Well, it only took all day, but I got it done. It turns out you have to jack the truck up, take the right wheel off, and access the alternator through the wheel well. After I got that done, I couldn't get the alternator out of the engine compartment. Finally, I found I had to take the serpentinen belt tightener off. Then it was easy (more or less).
I suppose book rate on this is something like 2 hours.
So much of farming is this way. Learn to do something that you never do again. Well, that is part of the charm and the exasperation. I am not complaining....now that it's done.

Re: S10 alternator
I bought a hay tedder this year, in a box. The mechanic said it would take 2 or 3 hrs. to assemble it. Maybe if I did it again. As it was it took all day. And I needed help from a guy who came to buy some hay.

Re: S10 alternator
I replaced the battery on my motorcycle last year. Should be easy, right? I think they started with a battery, then built the whole rest of the bike around it. Glad I bought a sealed one, cause there is no way I'm ever going to check it!
