What do you guys think of the issue of having self-propelled machinery versus hooking up to a prime mover such as a tractor? We all remember when combines were pulled by tractors but now they're nearly all self-propelled. Out west there are a lot of swather for moving hay, self-propelled, but in the mid-west nearly all mowers are hooked to a tractor. Tile trenchers are generally self-propelled but pull-type tilers are connected to a prime mover.
The discussion in another thread was whether a self-propelled baler was going to be adopted.
Are there some general principles about when a pulled versus self-propelled machine is appropriate?
