Used values higher than a year ago
That's what Machinery Pete's found recently.
"Sometimes figuring out where we are now is helped by being able to look back a bit and read the mileposts we've passed along the way. My advice? Buy, sell, trade and appraise used equipment with your eyes wide open, knowing where we are with used values right now," he says recently.

Re: Used values higher than a year ago
Used values really shot up after the 2007 crop year here and haven't stopped since. Looked at a 4630 on a dealer's lot. Almost 8K hrs. for 18.5K? Taking into consideration their known rear end problems it's 5K too much.

Re: Used values higher than a year ago
Our local dealer had an IH 766 for $12,000 or $12,500. The scary thing is there is such a shortage of 80-120HP tractors around here right now, he got it sold. Granted, it was pretty nice for its age, but the thing had no cab and was almost 40 years old. 5 years ago I could have bought all the 66 series tractors I wanted (766 thru 1466) in similar condition for $6500-$8500. Newer tractors in the same size bracket are even crazier.

I bought a 986 with cab, air, and duals last summer for 9500. It is in great shape, one owner, and runs like a clock.

Re: Used values higher than a year ago
Well, this spring, at my Father-in-law's estate sale, they sold his old 966, with a cab that had rust so bad you could poke your finger through in spots, the hour meter was broken, no air conditioner, and even the main cab fan didn't work right. It had an add-on heater that did work OK. The 3 point arms were rusted so you couldn't level your equipment, and the anti-sway linkage was wobbled out. The drawbar was bent, the block heater didn't work, and the paint was faded out. No duals, no dual hubs, no weights, the rear tires were bias but had good tread at about 75%, and it had dual hydrualic remotes. It brought $8900.
I think you did OK with the 986.
