Just thought I would put out a line to anyone following the Allen auction to see what your thoughts are on the going price of the 9400 Combine!

Here's "Combine of the Day" link at Machinerypete.com with last (161) JD 9400's I've seen sold at auction going back to mid 1990's:

Here's pic of that 1994 JD 9400 combine with 1739 hours on 12/15/10 farm estate auction in Jackson, MI

What's your sale price guess??

Re: MP, with all the experience and data that you have......

Wow....sorry to offend you there guy. Just trying to be helpful by providing our data to let folks have fun & compare.

I certainly don't claim to be a magician when it comes to guessing prices. JD 9400's peaked in value back in 2008 when I saw (6) sell between $51,000 - $80,500 at auction. They've come down a bit since then. Michigan has seen strong buyer demand and strong sale prices on very nice used combines here lately. Just Saturday (Dec. 11) a 1991 CaseIH 1660 (good, 2WD) with 2770 hours sold for $36,000 on a farm auction in northeast Michigan.

So this very nice 9400....I say will go maybe in the $55K neighborhood...we'll see.

Re: MP, with all the experience and data that you have......

9400 combine sold on today's auction for $63,000.....the overall exceptional quality & low hours of many items on this farm estate auction worked to bring a premium on numerous items.

....like the 1989 JD 4455 MFWD tractor with 2636 hours, sold for $62,000. That is the 3rd HIGHEST AUCTION PRICE I've seen on a 4455!

Unreal used machinery prices these days.  I saw a 9500 with similar hours, no heads, sell for 40K even at a large consignment sale at Ottawa, Ohio in the fall of '07.

having been in a gutless rather pathetic performing 9450 I would say this price makes no sense at all.

must reflect a dwindling supply I guess.

Fall of '07.....just before commodity prices SPIKED higher in mid Nov. '07. I've seen used equipment values shoot higher since then.

Also, the CONSIGNMENT AUCTION angle: generally speaking consignment sales produce "softer" sale prices than traditional farm retirement/estate sales. In fact the last 5 months (July - December 2010) I've never seen a bigger disparity in sale prices based on WHAT TYPE OF AUCTION the item sold on.........higher premium being paid currently at farm auctions with really well cared for, mostly "1 owner" low hour stuff.....like the Michigan sale Wednesday with the JD 9400 for $63K.

You are correct....dwindling supply of very nice condition 10-30 year old combines. Also at play is the ever RISING cost of new combines. Add these 2 factors together and you get recipe for increased premiums being paid for really nice used combines on nice farm sales.
