White 273 Disc?

I recently purchased a set of White 273 disc. I am going to replace all the front disc. I took one section apart, and found that the shaft is round, with a 1 1/2 inch diameter. The blades had square holes, which I found strange. I would think the blades should have round holes. What are the strongest blades to put on, and what diameter are the blades? Any help is appreciated.

Re: White 273 Disc?

I've never delt with a round shaft. I guess it wouldn't matter, you are relying on the pressure from the nut to hold everything together and keep the blades from turning on the shaft.

Re: White 273 Disc?

I guess the round shafts on your White disk go clear back to its Oliver ancestor.  Dad had an Oliver disk made in the 1940s, I assume down at South Bend where they made their plows, that had round shafts on the gangs.  We never had any trouble with the blades not turning, as long as the nut on the end of the shaft was kept tight.
