Winterizing Sprayer?
What anti-freeze do you put in your sprayer for the winter? I've been putting full strenght regular anit-freeze in. Some are using RV or similar anti-freeze.
What's your experience and preference and why? The RV stuff is cheaper.

Re: Winterizing Sprayer?
i've used rv antifreeze for many years. If i run it out on the ground next spring, probably a little more "environmentally friendly" than regular antifreeze. At least it won't kill my dog if she licks it up. One guy saves the regular antifreeze and re-uses it each year. I think the regular antifreezwe might be better for cast iron pumps and their seals because of rust inhibitors that are in the antifreeze.

Re: Speaking of anti freeze
When you total the number of acres you spray, it really doesn't matter much if you use the high priced stuff. That is if you figure on a cost per acre it really doesn't Matter if you use the ethyline Glycol. I also saved the antifreeze and winterized my pressure washer.
Another tip that may save you money is to take the blade from your safety razor clean it and store the blade in antifreeze. Take it out of the solution and rinse if off before shaving. Rust is the main factor that dulls your blade between shavings. The result being you can use your razor blade for an extended period and won't have to replace them as often. You are so welcome.

Re: Speaking of anti freeze
I don't have a big field sprayer, don't have enough acres to justify it, but I have a small one that I do ends with, and an ATV sprayer. I always used RV anti-freeze, the reason being, that on the jug, RV anti-freeze is supposed to protect to a lower temperature, so it should give better protection, even if diluted, at least in my mind.

Re: Winterizing Sprayer?
I've used winter grade windshield washer fluid for years with absolutely 0 issues. It's not nearly as expensive as any type of anti-freeze and you can generally find it on sale for $1 per gallon some time during the fall.
