dozer for cleaning pasture

We have old pastures to clean up. Stumps, brush, some good sized rocks.

Choices: buy an older smaller dozer IE Case 350,  use it for a yr or two and resell.

or rent a bigger newer dozer for a week.

Should it be bucket or blade?

Suggestions?

Re: dozer for cleaning pasture

Dozers aren't the right tool for taking out stumps.  They're made for staight pushing or grading.  Everyone pushes with the corners.  Thats hard on the frame rails and pivot points.  If your going to rent something, rent an excavator with a thumb.  Dig it all up and rake it in piles to burn and haul out, or just haul out.  When we take out hedge rows, I'll dig everything out  and let the rain clean some of the dirt off.  Then in a few weeks or months, we haul it out with a truck and front end loader.
