If you do get them loose, when you put them back first stick them in a bread sack, the plastic lining will make it much easier next time.

Re: jd wheels

PB blaster. I've had some that hadn't moved in years. Just had to keep working them. Seems like there might be a trick. Like taping the back side of the wedge with a bass punch maybe.

Re: jd wheels

I have always been told to jack up one side loosen the bolts tighten the pusher bolts . Then take a big sledge hammer and hit the end of the axle several times, then retighten the pusher bolts. The vibrations will usually break the wedge loose. On severe cases you can take a pipe that fits over the axle weld a flat plate over the end and notch the other end(so it only contacts one wedge and beat on the pipe with a sledge, then retighten the pusher bolts. These along with plenty of penetrating oil have worked on all that I have done.  Patrick

Re: jd wheels

Pat is right in what he said , also turn the wheel so that the pusher bolts are under the axle . This will take the weight off the wedge.

Re: jd wheels

I would let it soak in lubricant for a long time and then try the approach Pat suggested.

Re: jd wheels

Bought a JD 4620 last spring and it is still over at the local machine/blacksmith shop with stuck wheels.  Two of us worked a couple of days at home with heat, penetranting oil, and a big sledge hammer until we finally gave up.  They worked off-and-on all summer and when not working on it sprayed Kroil penetrant a couple times a week.   Finally determined one wedge was broke which was replaced for roughly $250, but the pinion is still stuck.  Believe the previous owner tried to move the wheels and gave up after breaking the wedge.  Quite a few years ago the shop constructed a sleeve/pipe to go over a JD axle which worked well, but this axle diameter is too large.  They aren't real happy and neither am I.  The previously utilized planting tractor was down for repair (which was the reason for buying the 4620) and didn't want to use the big heavy tillage tractor, therefore finally gave up and had the tenant plant the few acres I farm.  Wish you more luck than I 've had.
