mx 140 or 7110

how does a mx 140 compare to a 7110 magnum as far as durability. Also looking at a 2000 mx 240 or a 8940 . are the newer stile magnums as bullet proof as the old ones. What should i watch out for ? mx 140 would be a mixer wagon tractor as well as rd baleing and spraying

Re: mx 140 or 7110

all I know about the series right after the magnums quit, the 270, 240 et al, is that they were plagued with electronical problems. One dealer told me that virtually everyone of them has had the electronic tach replaced, and that the hours shown on these models are not accurate. So , buyer beware! Especially if the tractor has moved around the country.

Not sure if they have an internal hour meter that you can check against, but do your research. You do not want to pay 3000 hour money for a 10,000 or 12,000 hour tractor.

Re: mx 140 or 7110

These are two different class tractors. The 7110 is a full size magnum. The MX 140 is a maxium. Kind of like the current Puma I think.

Re: mx 140 or 7110

If you're just looking at durability...hands down the nod goes to the 7110. If you want a tractor that's "lighter" and easier to maneuver than the Magnum...which an Mx140 most definately is....you're probably as well off with the MX140. I find a lot of the MX series tractors have FWA...and unless you're moving snow with it...It's probably not necessary for a "utility" tractor. I like my Magnum...but after using it for spraying..and then using my MXM155 for it....I would rather use the smaller frame tractor. The reverser makes a lot of things easier when you're jockeying back and forth (Just don't grab it instead of the turn signal like I did one day in the middle of a state highway). The Magnum will be a better tractor for pulling a planter...or larger manure wagons....It's simply a matter of what you plan on doing with it.

Re: mx 140 or 7110

I guess you are talking about a Maxxum 140.  The older ones were mx's.  I had an mx120.  I hated it.  I payed for the tractor 2 times.  it was always broken..  front axle gears, transmisson, sometimes it would not shift from forward to reverse.

I traded it in on a Maxxum 140.  Have over 2000 hours on it and have had no problems at all.

Re: mx 140 or 7110

7110s are bullet proof.  Mine has 9000 hrs. on it & is still running strong.  If you are looking at either an 8940 or mx240, the 240 will turn much shorter than the 8940.  However, the 8940 will be more dependable.  Less electronic stuff.  I have a 7110 and an 8930.  My dad has a 240.  He has spent more repairing the 240 than I have my two older magnums combined!  The 240 is much more fun to drive(especially on grain cart) with the gear shift placement and the shuttle shift.
