straw chopping IH 1460

My 1460 is in excellent condition, having been completely gone thru in last 3 years, but it is an early model.  Therefore, the sides at the beater housing are not removeable.  I know I can flame it all out and retro fit, but I read somewhere how some one used sickle blades like disrupters.  I have the disrupters and specialty rotor, but they dont work near as good as they did with the old standard rotor.  Wondering if anyone had specific details about how and where to install the sickle blades in the grates.  Im finding the residue issue is hampering my notill.  Thought I was doing good untill my neighbor and I swapped some labor last fall and he combined the field in front of my house with his axial flow with the chopper.  Its night and day, all other things have been the same.  Id entertain a redekop chopper, but a new one costs twice what the old 1460 is worth.  Thanks in advance for helpful info.

dedbroke :  We ran a 2166 - late madel for a long time and had much the same problems with resisdue issues right behind the machine - I added a " The Spearder " = chaff spreader and that really helped a ton - - It still don't cut up the trash like a chopper - but at least its not piled up in the center = wet in the spring . Will check with a good friend that works on IH's and see if he has put on a refit with sickle blades - I had not heard of that one

We had a 1460 and had the sickle sections on the rotor along with a chaff spreader. Worked okay after the beans froze and got down to about 9%. Before that it wasn`t so good and if the stems were green it didn't work at all. Not what you wanted to hear but that was our experience.

There was a special grate called a "shredder" grate that had sickle sections bolted onto the grates somehow.  I was told that you could pull a anhydrous knife after you used one,,,Don't know never uesd one.  BUT my 1440 has the same problem with to much trash behind my combine, I have a chaff spreader, which helps ALOT, but I would still like to see it chopped up more.  We have an old massey of the same vintage and it has a chopper and it works really better for no till, I kinda went backwards with this Ol' international, but couldn't find parts anymore for the Massey, have a hard time keeping that ol' girl going, I didn't need two ol' girls to hunt parts for. 

There was a chopper once made that fit on the back like the Masseys and John Deeres where of that era, Never saw one, but I was going to see if I can hunt up another chopper and see if I can mount it on the back of the 1440, 

If you find something else out,  let me know,  the only other option I have is to start planting earlier season beans
