trash wipers

what brand of trash wipers do you all like best . my neighbor has the martin style but the sunco intrests me. all suggestions are welcome. thanks

We use Yetter trash whip no till coulter combo's. We use the shark teeth on the trash whips and they work very good. They just clear the trash and don't move any soil. We have depth bands but you probably don't need them at least not on both sides.

I asked that same question about a year or two ago and got mixed results so I decided to roll the dice and run naked.  Had no trouble, but I was in wheat & milo stubble.  Planning on no whippers again this year.

I run Martins W/ depth bands, beside a coulter set to about 2/3 of my intended planting depth.  The Martins will 'stretch' any residue, making it easier for the coulter to cut without hairpinning.

Wouldn't need the depth bands if I was all no-till, but I do everything from no-tilling into hard wheat ground (the coulter helps get to planting depth w/o heavy downpressure on the row units) to minimum till (where the depth bands really help).

This setup is probably not the best in any one situation, but seems to work well, in a variety of conditions.

We also are using martins with depth bands.  We are Corn on COrn mostly both in conventionally tilled and strip tilled ground.  We had some problems with the Martins plowing too deep even with the depth bands, so we built our own depth band extensions with similar results to what Precision Planting has done with theirs.  Now they work well in all soils we have

I purchased new ones from Dawn Manufacturing in 2004. This was before floating and combo units.  Mine have screw top adjusters.  Had martins before that and used to have to fight pins laying on your back in the dirt when ever you wanted to change row unit depth.  I also used dawn curved tine closing wheels on one side on my closing wheels too.  My success increased significantly with no till using this equipment set up.  For my soils which are mostly river bottom gumbo, this setup is the best I have tried.  I have also run the planter.....naked.... but I still belive my rusults were better with the row cleaners.  The key is proper adjustment.  They are row CLEANERS....not tillage units. You just just barely see where the fingers are swiping thru the dirt.  The other thing I found was that Jim at dawn  was phenominal at customer support.
