Cargil Ray has said `ethanol is the new grain reserve` 4 billion bushels waiting to come screaming into the market.  I`m not too worried, it would be orderly they would have $5 corn coming for awhile to buffer, also with absolutely no ethanol, gas would go up 80¢, making E profitable again.

If the crop keeps getting smaller, like it might, Then export ban might be possible,.  Highly unlikely but since we have an election year next year and if the term "food prices" I don't rule anything out.  The trade let corn get to cheap this year anyway, they should have ran corn prices up to $8 and left them there, instead they bounce around letting everyone have a chance to buy "cheap" $6 corn.   Another thing if the gov. Wanted to secure corn acres and make sure they got enough planted they could have raised the corn loan to $6 that would have gotten all the acres they needed.  China is buying there farmers to raise hogs, the US could buy us to raise corn.   I know they can't control the weather,  but they can control price to some degree, the higher corn gets the more people look for something else to use.  And the more the US farmer gets labeled the bad guy for some reason.   

Big Bad famer just trying to make a living,,,,we don't' control our prices that we get, we just have to take opportunity when it comes around every 15 years or so.  

And yes my corn has pollinated the worse I have ever seen in my 33  years of age, (course I've only farmed for 32) and my dad is twice my age and never seen anything like this, I would say 75% of a crop.  

Just for curiosity did you plant Monsanto genetics or something else, like Pioneer

Ours is mostly herculex from pioneer. Anything from poor pollination the entire ear to some missing on the butt to some missing on the tip. And the bigger ears that did pollinate well aborted the tip. Maybe 10 kernels each row. I think it is fairly widespread, not much dependent on variety here. It was real hot and real dry for about 3 weeks, we knew it wasn't gonna be pretty.

I planted Dekalb smartstacks corn. I know this year was pretty rough around here but my corn is 8 Ft tall for the most part and some of it didn't even make an ear. Last year sitting down with my seed rep I told him I wanted there best drought tolerant corn in the 100-105 day maturity. I bought his recommended DK 53-45 and for what I can see it fell on its face. I am done planting both Pioneer or Dekalb. We have some off brand companies in the area that seem to do just as good as the expensive stuff. As far as the markets go I agree with you that the market should have hit $8 and stayed there. The last report was a complete waist of time and a gamble by USDA that the current cool wet weather pattern would hold..... It didn't and we sold off a lot of grain after the last report that Im not sure we should have. I said it back then that was how we would get to $10. This crop is very deceiving though. Last month I traveled through much of the corn belt and remember thinking how good the corn looked from the road.... Must be I was wrong.

I was going to blame my Pioneer, we had a wet spring here then a dry spill from 4th of July on, course all my corn was pollinating during the hot weather.   If i would have planted one week sooner i probably would have had really good corn.  Mine was Herculex too, I was going to plant just Roundup Ready but by the time you add the Pouncho 1250 to it, it made the corn higher price then the Herculex.
