Re: $10 corn. Write that down.

With the yen at 1.3 and the dollar ar .75 wouldn't that make our $7.00 corn $4.00 to the Chines?

Been walking SE Mi fields.  Estimating yields at 75% of normal IF we get a frost after 10-10.  Its ugly.

I'm fairly certain we've never had a year in those states mentioned where it didn't frost.

Re: $10 corn. Write that down.

Let me get this right, you actually think the US would embargo corn exports? If I were China I would respond by halting car part exports. Then you would see some inflation when new cars become scarce.

Doesn't the US govt have corn reserves?  If they do they would be off the carryover books much the way the oil reserves are accounted for.  If the gvt dosen't already have reserves maybe they should.

OldKen where abouts you farming in MI? Im right around the tri-state border on the MI side and I think this years corn is the worst I have ever had. It looks great in spots and in others I have just said WTF. Yield goal was 150 bpa and the ground I am farming can do it but I don't know if it will make 100 bpa after seeing what is there. As for $10 corn I just don't see it happening.

Actually I'm a grain buyer just north of Toledo. We draw from 4 or 5 counties at this location and have elevators across the state. We have a lot of late planted corn that could be good but currently we are calling the corn crop 75% of normal.

Government grain reserves?  Wow, we haven't had those for a long, long time. Anyone want to go back to set aside acres? Not sure why folks have to explain things on here.  Well then, that helps clear up a few things.
