158 years ago today, at this hour
Confederate artillery unleashed what was to that point the largest artillery barrage ever in this hemisphere, onto Cemetary ridge.
Union artillery pulled back and then moved back into position, cutting the Confederate charge into ribbons with grapeshot.
It wasn’t until 1/6/2021 that the Confederate flag finally flew in our Capitol.

1st Minnesota!
Although I suppose today most of the patriots would have to come from the Twin Cities.

Re: 158 years ago today, at this hour
Since i`m replying, i`d better correct: It`s SEMINARY Ridge not "cemetary ridge " (Bruce shoulda caught that)

Twin Cities occupants are a violent lot, 150 some years later. However to get them to fight these days it would have to involve looting a Foot Locker store 🙂

Cemetery Hill/Ridge.
Seminary Ridge was the shaft of the fishhook defensive line.
I’m concerned they may be teaching the 1776 Project in IA public schools.

"The trouble with our Liberal friends is not that they're ignorant; it's just that they know so much that isn't so."
Having been to the Gettysburg battlefield several times I know exactly where Seminary Ridge is and what happened there.

Will be going back there again in August with 3 of our grandchildren.
Will also take them to Fort McHenry by Baltimore.
So important that they see first hand what they're not taught much about in school these days!!

The advance was upon Cemetery Hill/Ridge.
Looking up the slope felt to me like standing at water’s edge at low tide on Omaha Beach.
At least the men who drew the short straw there were doing so in a noble cause instead of fighting for the 1% who owned most all the slaves and good land.

Re: 158 years ago today, at this hour
In order to get to 1863, there FIRST had to be a 1776. TODAY is the only day that we celebrate 1776. Had our Founding Fathers been hanged and America would`ve been just another British colony, the Anglos might`ve allowed the Confederacy to operate as usual. After all, they fought a war with China over opium trade, what the Confederacy was doing was small potatoes.

Yeah, the Tory Monarchists certainly attempting to seize the mantle of The Founders.
But there's no starting or ending point in history. The reverence for the Declaration of Independence stems from the Civil War and Lincoln's reframing of its meaning.
