Re: 1945 Markets

Hey SW, there`s many factors into figuring how much tax load does it take to carry the public debt.   Half the country doesn`t pay federal income taxes, yet they vote themselves "free stuff". And of the half that do pay taxes, probably the top 10% pay 90% of the taxes...yet some congresswomen from New York want a 70% tax bracket and chase out businesses that hire people at living wages.

It`s been figured that if the tax rate is 22% of GDP it kills the economy, people move out, quit working when they bump up to the confiscatory level.  Governor William Bradford learned that early in America`s history, but they don`t teach real history anymore.

IMO the growth we get is from government spending and that is borrowed money, so we are past the point where the debt can be serviced, even if half the country would help pulling the wagon instead of enjoying the ride in the wagon.

The reason the farm economy has been strong in the recent years is in the 1980`s there was, still is chapter 12 bankruptcy where debt is written off or down to reflect it`s present value. Poor farmers were purged out in the 80`s, that enabled a "rich farmer" with 600 acres to now farm 3,000 acres...4 "poor" 600 acre farmers were closed out  and a "rich farmer" was either prudent and wealthy or had $100`s of thousands of debt written off and could grow his operation.

See, that worked for farmers (chapter 12) and will be the end game for the national debt....the only other option is to "learn Chinese".

And   ask  the  EXPERTS also -  why  no  3  eggs  a  day,  while  your  in  there,  instead  of  the  horse  and  buggy 1  egg  a  day ,  think  of  the debt  that  would  shoulder - - -

I  still find  an  interesting deal of  AmaZon  tax liability , &  with  all  the  modern gadgets, and  NOT  having to   levied  sales  tax , in several  states  - ? With several  states  continually  thrashing  the straw  pile  whether or not to - ?  DUH. com  - - -

Re: 1945 Markets

And why not 16,000 acres per farmer???

That is where congress is taking us through vudu regulation.

It is really the same issue.

Can we solve our social demands by raising productivity???

I think there are some laws of biology and physics that provide roadblocks.  And every leap in technology invents new levels of problems.  Just as every new level of social change creates new problems.... ie that family cabin in the mountains, now is millions of cabins in the mountains with year round residents that want very expensive public services in remote places. (and want sympathy when it all burns down in a fire)  but will fight and march for protection of that pristine forest they themselves built a house in.

It is all sad to watch, but that is what you get when you elect officials who can't say no.  And don't realize that the public good includes setting limits.

Re: 1945 Markets

That three egg a day chicken will be more expensive and need a better health plan, better feed, and a beer break..... public transportation to and from the nest.  And freedom to worship daily with its piers.   In short it will be more expensive and the company that developed the genetic line will need the first egg daily for developing the breed.

At this point the bureaucracy to oversee the growth in productivity will outgrow egg production exponentially.  Best example today, look at the power grab in usda to wrestle hemp regulation away from the State governments.... Hemp......... with almost no demand, in terms of volume production or in terms of cash volume generated in sales.

Our once slow and methodical regulatory system is in a very pro-active mode these days when it comes to stealing market share from  other governmental agencies.

That three egg a day chicken will be controled by that original tech development funding and will drive out of business the one egg a day free market chickens.  So we are all better off without jobs and caging fewer chickens????

Re: 1945 Markets

This is my opinion of course, but it seems to me a society is better if there are a sizable percentage of farmers in the population.   Like now we have 2% of population is farmers and if you throw out the farms selling a few dozen sweetcorn ears, it`s probably 1% headed for 1/2%.  of actual everyday farmers.

I think this country would be better if 10% of the population were farmers, unless we moved to a planet the size of Jupiter, there wouldn`t be enough land for them all to have 16,000 acres each  Smiley Happy    If farmers were 10% of the population, the mainstreets of small towns would thrive again, instead of being a waitress at Applebees they could own their own cafe, instead of being a stockboy at Menards there might be an opportunity to own their own hardware store.   Schools wouldn`t have to bus kids into one location from 1 hour away, one town would have more than enough kids to operate the school, towns could have a independent hospital where you could drive 10 minutes away and have your appendix taken out instead of driving 2 hours away.

But we did it to ourselves, talk to a FFA class and the one kid that raises his hand to be a "hog farmer" his idea is take care of (3) 5,000 hd finishing sites, he wouldn`t want any part of the getting up at 3am to check a sow that having pigs.  And we`re all hypnotized by the bright lights & big city an hour away to buy what we need at Menards and have lunch at Applebees.
