Cx-1,

In reference to a previous question, I talked to a guy from Hooker, Oklahoma today who said we were 19 degrees for a couple of hours this morning.  This afternoon it was 65 and beautifull weather.

Re: 3 Days-in-row Ka

thanks sw -- fairly dry airmass.

do you or Shaggy have any photos-from-the field TODAY?

we could compare to pics from the OTHER day -- and again, with ALL due respect to you, Shaggy and all the wheat farmers in Ne, Co, Ka, Ok, Tx -- mother nature does not discriminate.

thanks,

Re: 3 Days-in-row Ka

Is there a meteorological reason or some weather phenomena that is causing the western half of Kansas to be so cold?  Maybe low humidity or a bow in the jet stream?  North here in Iowa we should be colder than you folks but we are not.  Yes, we are way below normal but not  in the teens or low 20's.  We did have 26* this morning.

Our humidity at 8:30 PM is 64%. Temp at 47*.

Warmer weather on the way.  A lot of corn will be planted in Iowa the next 5 days.

Re: 3 Days-in-row Ka

You're kidding right?

Where in Iowa is all this corn going to get planted in the next 5 days?

Still too cold and too wet pretty much the whole state.

Heck, there's still snow on the ground in northern IA.

Re: 3 Days-in-row Ka

CX1, I will have to see it to believe it, but I actually was driving by one of my wheat fields this morning and happened to see my consultant out their scouting. Naturally I stopped to survey the damage and get his opinion and he thinks I might have threaded the needle. With the 3" of snow we received there was still just enough snow cover on the ground yet to protect the wheat. He claims the snow was approximately 1/2" to 3/4" above the stem where the jointed head was located. He said that little bit of insulation coupled with the 44F soil temp was just enough to give it the freeze protection it needed. Like I said, I will have to see it to believe it. Hey, it's not like me to look a gift horse in the mouth.

Re: 3 Days-in-row Ka

i'm impressed if a lot is planted in Ia next 5 days - by the 29th of Apr.

Re: 3 Days-in-row Ka

There will be very little corn planted here in the next five days.    We had a shower of rain this afternoon and forecast for showers overnight.    Good chances of rain Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday in our latest forecast.    There is a lot of fertilizer yet to be put on corn ground, and most everyone around here will have some ground preparation before they start planting corn.   A lot of drying needs to be completed before it is going to be fit to plant.....the three inches of snow a couple of days ago and low 20s freezing the past two nights make drying going very slow.....

Re: 3 Days-in-row Ka

I'd say here in Nebraska based on the forecasts that some guys might try Sunday or Monday and by Tuesday there will be alot of planters going.  Granted there is still alot of fertilizer to put on and field prep to do.  I plan to try to go on Monday.
