Re: 4378 and 106

https://www.nakedcapitalism.com/2020/01/coronavirus-not-looking-good.html

R Value estimated at 2.7 vs an estimate of 1.8 for the 1918 flu. So it is very highly virulent in human to human transmission.

Degree of lethality still unknown.

Appears to be a big deal.

"epidemiological sweet spot"

https://www.nakedcapitalism.com/2020/01/dr-victor-shih-coronavirus-much-worse-than-sars.html

"Much worse than SARS" on account of a lower mortality rate but far higher virulence.

The sick or dead part aside for the moment, if SARS cut .5% off world GDP you'd have to fear this will be worse.

"In short, in Mr. Shih’s view, based on his work suggesting “hundreds of thousands” of potentially infected Wuhan residents left for Shanghai & Guangdong, the number of cases being reported in these economically important provinces (66 and 207, respectively) are likely “grossly” understated, suggesting the impact to growth, globally, will be much worse than currently implied by market valuations."

Re: "epidemiological sweet spot"

Wonder how many cases usda is reporting?  The methodology is probably similar.

Usda could report twice as many cases and bring them to life in the following years report.

That is how wonderful usda is.

Hopefully the Big Pharma lobbyist in charge at HHS will put aside the important work of drainin' the swamp and give this his full attention.

Speaking of USDA and the swamp.

Some sketchy self dealing land transactions in Perdue's history as GA Gov.

You can take it to the bank that anyone left in this cabinet is corrupt. As was predicted, the few people of integrity have been driven out and it now resembles the Trump Org.

BTW, blowing up the ERS for refusing to put out phony economic opinions for political purpses is pretty darn corrupt.

Wilbur "the Cypriot Laundryman" Ross sez that the coronavirus in China will be good for the US economy.

Although in these days there's no penalty for saying stupid stuff.
