Re: 5-5 Weather Update
The trick is to ignore negative posts. They aren't that meaningful or important. Everyone else understands. I've heard government subsidies can cause some to feel insecure and worthless deep down and criticism is an attempt to make up for it. Some are affected, some see things they way they are and want more information.

Re: 5-5 Weather Update
Thanks Guys. I appreciate it. And Hardwheat, it's nice to see you back on.
I do look at the world weather as I'm doing my own look at what's going on. I tend to concentrate on the Midwest, and the Northern Tier area, because I know it the best. Hardwheat, what area do you live in again there down under? Maybe if I see something interesting, I'll pass it along for you.
Finally had some activity here today. It was a beautiful day, sunny, dry. And we almost got to 70. I think today was the first day in April that we were in the 60's. Normal high now is like 67 or so. We're pretty sandy here, and the soil is somewhat forgiving if we work it a bit wet, as long as we still get rain. Saw several tractors out doing primary tillage, spreading fert and the like. It wasn't perfect by any means, but it least the farmers are starting to run. I talked with a neighbor of mine this afternoon, said he had been over to Wausau, WI this weekend (near where I used to farm). He said that nearly every field has water standing in it yet. I know how miserable that is - I lived it there many years. I feel for all you guys over there, but, it does look once again like some drying is on the way. I'll write more about that in the morning.
Anyway, thanks again guys, and be safe out there. It only takes a second to make an error that could jeopardize your life, or the life of someone else. It's not fun farming when you're hurt - been there, done that. I spent one entire fall in a full leg cast because an auger I was painting and had suspended above me (to paint the underside) had a chain slip, and ended up pushing my lefft knee cap down into my shin area, in the process severing my patella tendon. It was good for a week in the hospital and the better part of a year living with braces on my leg after the cast finally came off. I did harvest that year by having my neighbor lift me up on the combine with my skid steer, the same skid steer that I used as my wheel chair on the farm. It was a Cat 247 (tracks). Love the machine. But if you're ever in a cast, using your skid steer as a whell chair, be very careful if you have your loader arms raised with your leg hanging out the front of the cab. That was the only way I could get into the machine. I had to have someone raise the arms - or leave them raised, and then back up to the skidsteer with my butt, and hoist myself in. But my leg in the cast went out the door, and I was sure that I wouldn't drop the frame on my foot. I was wrong....True story, and a very, very painful fall.

Re: 5-5 Weather Update
Oh yeah - I did that last week too. I guess it's because the weather is so crappy, it couldn't possibly be May. And you're right - I need to go back to bed....my daschunds got me up because they needed to be covered up. Yes, if they mess up the covers they bark until I come down to tuck them back in bed. And I thought kids were bad....
