Re: ARC and crop insurance payments
Doubt many get much crop ins money, yield increases will
offset price declines, and you get zip. Well, you did get the
revenue you insured so it worked. But, it points out the lunacy
of thinking crop ins has anything to do with selling the crop.
ARC payments, must or all of us max out at $40k,
peanuts and not much help.
The real profit will come from delivering the $11 soybeans.
That was a gift from God.

Re: ARC and crop insurance payments
Coincidentally the combines roll in ernest during that October harvest price insurance month. When reports come flowing in from the combine and IMO not as rosey as the initial projections, I think a modest rally could occur. Which could lead to farmers digging in thier heels further, filling the old corn crib alleyways and flare boxes, not wanting to give their crop away, if there is a glimmer of hope.

Re: ARC and crop insurance payments
So they have lowered the payment limits to $40,000 from $125,000. And if a wife is farming also, throw in another $125,000 for the very large operations. There are millions of people in America that would love to have those peamuts. Lord have mercy on us, us poor farmers. If I read it right, peanut farmers get another $125,000 more to the limit. Pass me a peanut.

Re: ARC and crop insurance payments
If millions in America, the ones you refer too, start producing anything close to the level of the farm population we solve a lot of problems.
But being unproductive and complaining about the greedy ones that produce has become an art form.

Re: ARC and crop insurance payments
No, there are millions that work just as hard as we do, many thousands of small business owners that do NOT have the government to help them out as much as we that farm do. And I do not work as hard as my father did when he was 55 and still farming.

Re: ARC and crop insurance payments
"many thousands of small business owners that do NOT have the government to help them out as much as we that farm do."
That statement is out of date in both directions.... Or just an old wives tale....
I remember the local main street of the late 1950's when there were small business owners..... ...... they are gone..... now it is either the internet, walmart type chains or, convenience store chains...
Oh and all those boarded up stores on main street....the government gave them a new sidewalk this year..
And I remember when 40% of the average farmers annual income came from a government subsidy ........ that was nearly as long ago as when there were small businesses..... But you can still get your outhouse replumbed on a cost share.
The farmer has to eventually realize the only help the farmer has gotten from government is help to retire or get out...
That all stopped many years ago..... it is just a token rumor these days....
Small farmers and small businessmen have been treated pretty evenly by government over the years. Both have lost....
