Anyone planting wheat this fall ?

Can really see how you can make it work for
$3 a bu

Oh on a side note.. remember last year they made
Such an issue of the French wheat....how cheap
They were selling and "how much"...they had

Today's report says they are really down on supplies
And crop conditions......

And did that bring the market up like it knocked
It down...

Re: Anyone planting wheat this fall ?

Sometimes I think a small factor was the last straw.  In and of itself it is not a big deal, but a small push on a tree that is already notched may fell it while that same push before the cut would have done nothing.  If there is enough tenion in a system, a small action may release the pent-up pressure.  That same small action that can push a tree over will often not be enough to push it back up.

Re: Anyone planting wheat this fall ?

cant afford to but in NE ND there isnt much choice. this year is the first time in15 years that i havent planted winter wheat! The minneapolis market doesnt want it so the price is$2 a bushel less! they want spring wheat and if we dont have 14 protien the discounts are substantial like 5 cents a fifth of a point discount which amounts to$.25 off. the past twoyears its been 20 cents a fifth that amounts to a $1.00 off! and some varieties were 12 protien so we lost $2!

Re: Anyone planting wheat this fall ?

You gents are clearly demonstrating that some acres should not be in row crops. 🙂

...elchapstick...you have to plant something to get the insurance guarantee and farm bill goodies. The acres will be planted. In our area the straw is worth about as much as the wheat is, so acres are not going to go away. Not that IN matters to any market.

Of note, the Dec 2017 wheat is 5.12, so you are not planting $3 wheat, unless you just want to be....

Re: Anyone planting wheat this fall ?

We are still harvesting..... and our important decision is "Which coop should it be stored at?"  And how long the fiasco at the FSA office with all new personel, will last

The one on the ropes now that will only guarantee liquidity through wheat harvest or the other one with run down facilities.

Then there is ADM who doesn't seem to care if they get any.

Or the ADM Terminal RR location which is going to be sold to another coop 60 miles south...

What does it say when ADM sells a terminal location that receives distillers grain and corn from the midwest to feedlot country as well as loading out unitrains of wheat and milo to the west coast?  Less than 15 years old and expanded in the last two years?

It looks to me like the market realities of the last 2 years have been hitting the storage and handling middlemen just as hard or harder than producers... We are going to loose some long term, well established businesses.

The basis may be the handwriting on the wall.  But right now it is the most turned around I have ever seen it.... Negative basis near worst historically locally and I see some positive basis in the east and north...

-----------------------

Funny you should ask.......... Current question is why store the seed.   Maybe to save this bad test weight..

Re: Anyone planting wheat this fall ?

I'll plant 1/3 of my acres back to winter wheat again this fall. Fortunately this area is aggressively grazing wheat to put pounds on yearlings.

Wheat is rapidly becoming a dual purpose crop in this area.

Re: Anyone planting wheat this fall ?

You guys are probably going to plant the most profitable crop from the year before.........And that is beans.......In other words there will be less wheat planted, and less corn planted, and a godilian acres of beans planted.  heaven forbid you plant the most profitable crop when the planters roll because that would be too easy.  I was reading a different ag web page and they are still talking about how to grow more corn on corn acres.  Good lord guys plant it to hey are pasture again.

Re: Anyone planting wheat this fall ?

Some will be planted.  It's good winter feed for cattle....... and keeps ground from blowing in winter....

None for food.  Our protestors are too fat to run..
