Anyone selling your new crop.

I'm more of a cow/calf guy, but was wondering if any of the row croppers here are selling new crop corn, or December or Jan corn, have a buddy that is a grain buyer for good sized elevator, they can't believe more people aren't forward selling as he believes we are close to another downturn. Just wondering how you guys are planning. Are there a lot of guys who can't cash flow at 4.60 corn.

Re: Anyone selling your new crop.

If your buddy can't buy new crop corn, he can always raise his bid until someone sells to him.

Re: Anyone selling your new crop.

With subsidized insurance guarantees and shallow loss bonuses there is probably some degree of disincentive to sell.

Might as well swing for the fences?

Panterafan,

your buddy probably means they are "sweating" = translation of "can't believe."

There's still lots of new on-farm empty bins. Guys built those to put crops in. Shiny new metal ups the ante sell grain at breakeven.

Didn't you reach the $5 cash level a few days ago?

My bad, highest we were was $4.96 on April 9th.  I was thinking we closed at $5 earlier this month.

I'm lucky I guess and live close to the mississppi river and caught the basis low and sold some sept delivery for $5.01 and caught local grain company not on the river at $5.00.
