Re: Are Markets, Weather Right For Corn Planting

Jim,

Sounds like the markets will not get nervous about corn planting until May 10. So, a lot of time left.

Re: Are Markets, Weather Right For Corn Planting

I can appreciate that sure. However summer solstice is June 20th then the days start getting shorter. So, for example you plant corn on April 20th pretty realistic. That's 60 days until you start losing daylight again. Then another 90 before mature harvest. For a broad total of about 150 days start to finish. With this example your April 20th corn would be ready to harvest on September 20th. With weather patterns over the last day 5-10 years we (up here) have much nicer weather in late September and early October than we do right now in early April. So I guess it's just farmers choice to combine 30% corn or 16% corn in late September early October. Personally I've discovered it is quite a bit cheaper to wait a few weeks in planting then to pay for that much more LP drying in the fall. To each their own of course.🌞
