It's 9 AM as I write this, and it's 48 degrees. Lots of record lows mostly dating back to 1915 going to fall today. The next ten days promises not much better with temps struggling to get to 75. Unless these fronts stop dropping out of Canada, a large swath of the upper Midwest simply is going to run out of time. We've been stuck in this pattern since the dome of doom moved out 3 weeks ago. The 8-14 day forcast show this pattern to continue. That would take us half way through August. Corn is made in July, and other than OH and IN, the rest of the corn belt has pretty much sucked with rainfall totals for the month of about an inch. Now we enter the bean arena, and the forecasts are dry. This crop is a long ways from being made, and we stand to have 40-40-40 junk corn over a large portion of our northern corn belt. This stuff is light and flinty, and requires feeding much more to get the same energy values of good, 56 - 60
lb corn.
Eventually, our weather pattern will again change. For now, we're stuck.
