Re: Basis map (corn)
That little white spot in eastern Iowa is where I'm at. It's nice to have processor, river and feeder markets, no doubt about it.

Re: Basis map (corn)
Hobby, that map raises a lot of questions......... Which you don't have time for harvesting a record crop and not putting a bushel of it on the ground...........intentionally..
It is so abnormal in many ways from the pre ethanol era. thanks for putting it up here.... we need to figure out where we are now that congress runs farming.
I think it has a big effect from the ddg absence.
A lot of the corn truck freight going south through the western corn belt is not reflected in current basis.... so must not be happening. Except for that obvious run from Sw ks to Nw texas....Looks like it will be back to normal there.
But look at shaggy's Hays Ks area..... Not much corn raised there??? Which makes me wonder how much of this is reflected in "market control locally"(lack of competition) as consolidation rolls on...??
And of course, not to be left out, a railroad monopoly ?
Since nearly as much corn leaves Iowa as ddgs in one form or another. is that a distorting factor to basis?

Re: Basis map (corn)
My uneducated guess is that most corn that is railed out of Iowa, is out of Creston, Iowa from the Gavilon terminal or the one in very sw Iowa, also Gavilon.
Fourty five miles one way and fifty another to the closest E plants. At least they always seem to be in the market and will dump you.
Kind of telling, the cow pastures and hay ground went to grain production.

Re: Basis map (corn)
I think you are gonna see that blue/green line moving west as the winter sets in.
And.....talk about a black hole.........look at that upper western corn belt.

Re: Basis map (corn)
yes that is unbelieveable. Kansas is facing a lot of possible parasitic basis fixing...
it is not a coincidence that the basis change line in the SW coincides with a couple of state lines..
