A recent article has gone viral in a similar fashion to some high school kid’s Facebook post last winter calling for 40-50 inches of snow a few weeks ahead of time. Were you duped?
This recent article claims record shattering snowfall in tandem withsoaring milk and bread prices. The US map showing most of the nation with above normal snowfall is a hoax! We could still be in for a lot of fun this winter, but nothing based on that fake forecast is relevant. The data by Empire News is not true. It is so ridiculous and fooled so many, I will NOT link to it here since that will only feed into their attempts to make money off of your views.
There has been NO CLAIM EVER by NWS with a 99% confidence for a season ahead of time. that itself is almost comical.
This quote below should have tipped your off that this was a parody or fake news:
“For the sake of comparison to the past winter, lets say that your area received a total of twenty inches of accumulative snow for the season. Because this year the snowfall is predicted to start by the end of September or the beginning of October, you can expect to multiply that number by up to five, ten, maybe even twenty times in some areas. In the worst zones, you could see 50 times the amount of snow you’ve had in the past.”
If that were true, then Baltimore would have a minimum of 195 inches of snow.
COME ON!
Even the people quoted might not be real. Their titles are suspicious:
- Dr. Boris Scvediok, a doctor of global weather sciences
- Edward F. Blankenbaker, Senior Administrator of Meteorologists
- Rebecca Miller, FDA Spokesperson
In addition to my own skepticism, this has been debunked by Snopes.com
I love snow but I do not let it cloud my outlooks or want to jump on the hype machine. I will continue to stand by my strategy for seasonal outlooks and my first call around Halloween.
Just be careful what you read. There are many credible meteorologists online and many of us have different opinions. But when you see a website, check to make sure it is legit.
There is no Dr. Boris Scvediok. Just another person on the internet playing games....
