Brazilian soybean area expansion in real time, satellite images of fires

You can practically  see the expansion of Brazil's soybean planted area in real time from the satellite images of the fires there now.  Notice how the heaviest fire rings the new expanding areas in a line across the map adjacent to the uncleared forest but not in the areas where soybean growing has been well established.

This is the new production that will replace US beans on the world market.  You can actually watch it happen as it happens.

It just looks to me like they are cutting their own throats, sort of like "here" in 2011 golf courses and Begonia gardens were plowed up to plant that elusive "$7 corn". And now where are we?

The "blame" can be laid at the feet of  "US/China trade war" and the Riiiiiightwing Brazilian President for throwing a match in the rainforest .  But you take an individual Brazilian farmer, isn`t he going to be thinking "If I clear this ground how do I know the US/China trade war won`t be settled before I even pull the planter out?"  To clear ground and fight stumps for 5 years after isn`t a easy task for anyone that`s cleared an old building site and brought it into production.  And if you`re doing it, your neighbor is doing it and the whole country is doing it,you can`t exactly expect record high prices anytime in the next decade.

There`s more cost to bringing that land into crops than the cost of the match.  2 ton of lime, potash, cleaning up unburned sticks & roots pulling out the green trees that didn`t burn and then build a fair weather road so you can get the crop to the "level B" road for the 500 mile trek to the port and sit in a 2 day line and just when you get to the dump pit the dockworkers go on strike.

The US was up to its neck in aiding the Lava Jato scheme that brought Bolsonaro to power.

For no better reason than an obsession with Venezuela, which is a sad case put poses no threat to us. And, I guess just the reflexive way we act in Latin America.

cant say i blame the SA farmer for trying to better himself. Hes filling our sales and with the continued anti china rhetoric sales will only increase for the foreseeable future.      Sure they are burning the “lungs” of the earth but it will produce crops and crops produce oxygen.    Can anyone in washington say goodbye markets and hello to a depressed rural economy again?

I`m not blaming Brazilian farmers, I`d do exactly what they are doing, hoping that i`ll be the "fastest Gazelle".  But those throwing a match in the rainforest, are they the "small 30,000 hectare farmers" or is it multinational corporations like Bayer or the international grain companies that do business down there?

But another thing about politics in Brazil, they have a greater "wealth disproportionality" than the US.  While we are one election from going socialist, they are one election from going marxist.  And would you be enthused as a Brazilian farmer expanding your 30,000 hectares to 50,000 hectares with that added risk?

of course its corps like bayer, syngenta, louis dreyfuss, cargill,CHS,bunge that are investing there plus countries like china, japan and anyone else that sees its money making time. Prob road builders and railroads too. cant say i blame them. kind of like the west frontier in this country but on a larger scale.      We better find new uses for our commodities or we will stay in this low point for a very long time!

And a well known fact that scientists made up the oxygen hoax so they could get grant money.
