CME Group adds e-hours

CME Group announced Tuesday that beginning, May 13 for trade date May 14, customers will have expanded access to CBOT corn, soybeans, wheat, soybean meal and soybean oil futures and options on CME Globex as follows:

Sunday to Monday, 5:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. CT
Monday to Friday, 6:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. CT.
Open-outcry trading hours will continue to operate from 9:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. CT Monday to Friday.

Does this give you a better chance to utilize your crop's markets? What do you think?

Personally do not like it. What is the need that we had to expand the hours? I still think that the busiest times to trade will coincide with the pit trading hours.

Re: CME Group adds e-hours

after hours is a joke........just like in equities........volume is so light, the only time it really pays is if you need to get in or out...........which usually doesnt pay if you are patient during the regular trading hours............wanna play and get lucky by putting in a strike/limit way over or under to try and capture a large order than needs your bid to get theirs filled............OR.............to allow crazy VOLITALE trading before or after market moving news like reports/earnings or surprises...............

the markets need a break to digest news............not hurl one direction and then another..........you thought the ambulance chasers were crazy before...........just wait.............its going to look like froggy............

The CME had no choice since ICE started trading agriculturals.  Right now with the thumb sitting over the MF Global fiansco I would chooce ICE over CME anyday.  CME didn't protect its customers well enough for my loyalty.

Re: CME Group adds e-hours

If you use futures and options a lot, would this make you more likely to etrade and abandon your traditional broker? Will the smaller broker have the staff and resources to respond as quickly as the firm with staff on the job all night long? How will this affect local elevator pricing? Will they have to expand their hours and staff or restrict or limit their trading when the board is open but the elevator is closed? Maybe elevators will have to use outside staff to cover some trading hours.
