Cash Market Action
This is nuts I have lost over $2 a bushel in the local cash bean market within this week. According to everything that we have been told from good ol' USDA there was no grain on the farm this year compared to last year, NOW the market is crashing on the sales that farmers are making?!?!?!?!? Now I realize that a positive basis won't last forever, but I have no idea why anyone even listens to the USDA reports anymore. anyone want to guess what is going to be on the August Report? I'm going to take a stab at it. We've found bushel and bushels or grain. I imagine that they will raise the corn yield to 155 or over, since this 1/4 inch of rain has made this crop. Probably raise the acres too. Why not. more to follow

Re: Cash Market Action
Processors have shut the doors for maintenance they say, or now have enough to make it to the new crop. Funny how every processor goes down at once.

Count your cards
I'm mostly with Giolucas on this one. Why sweat the near term?
I thnk there has been an expectation that physical supplies could get tight by the end of the season. I'm sure many big end users put in place strategies to deal with that possibility - like shutting down for mainteainence, etc. Why not?
On the other hand, if a product is profitable then processors and users won't back off unless it is near impossible to get supplies - and running in the red for awhile is an old tradition to keep workers and buyers long term. So demand could only be tempered a bit, but with current falling prices why not ramp up?
Basis has been telling a story but that doesn't mean psychology has no impact as some bet on lower prices later on. In any case physical product will be bought - and sold. Some will certainly throw in the towel.
If old crop supplies are likely to be tight then there is still some theater to watch before the story is told.
Count your cards. Then place your bets.

You telling me that YOUR processors have shut down up north as well???????? Huh,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,think they can squeeze out enough beans until new crop?? I have two processors within 40 miles of me,,,one has shut down, the other one has had a hay day with the basis since.

Re: Cash Market Action
A few buyers in my area went from +70 on Monday to +0 since. Another one added .65 today, putting them at +140. That tells me somebody still wants beans. I have a few loads left to sell. Gonna hang on.

Re: Cash Market Action
Aug meal down the $20 limit again tonight. Aren't there 12 weeks or so before new beans? I suppose "they" could've crushed enough meal to cover Oct, but seems like old soy story may not be over just yet.

Re: Cash Market Action
I think if you review history, there are NO years where a tight rop waited until the end if the mkting yr to ration, peak. Endusers have acted by now. Palousr says why nott sit,, becaue there is a new crop about to be harvested. Old crop was scarce priced. In Sept old crop beans are teh same as new crop.
