Re: China is after the bacon
Mornin SW. Yea I know just a little inflamatory yesterday. But first off let me say when I say E I mean Government Mandated E. It is outside the bounds of the free marklet system.
YEA....yea......... I know somebody is gonna say.."what about big oil" ?!
I do not know..
But you brought this up. Going back to 98 Somebody should have stopped the collusion of the packers and the growers. When it didn't stop in the early 90's look what happened. They were able to brow beat us with the captive supply. This was a failure of Governement again.
The thing that gripes me the most,( And I should be fair and also use the WHole herd buyout which BTW Black sand I was 15 years old when that was inacted But I am a big boy you can blame me for it), about E is to me it is the poster child of Government at it's best. The unintended consequences are staggering. Since the great depression we have had at our core some kinda socialist mindset about agriculture which excuses big brothers interference in the name of food safety or food security. All the while there is this strained marriage between balancing the foood neeeds of our nation and the ability of a family farm to survive by working hard and doing a good job of husbandry.
And E was just the final stake in the heart. If E wants to compete for acres so be it. But it should compete based on the marketplace not because someone is told you must buy so much.
I am of the realization and have been for a long time that we are not a free market in America. We are in cronny capitalism all the way. SO we either have to make it so we get rid of this system. Which in my opnion means get rid of E the poster child of lobbiests and special interest groups. Or it is time to go all out and declare to the world we are socialists thru and thru. And give me my pice of the pie which can't be any bigger than my corn farming neighbors of course. But it shouldn't be any smaller either!
And I really do not want the Gov. thugs involved in saying how many cows I can milk. Which is why I do not support any of the nonsensical market manipulating cronny capitalistic ideas that are being floated on the river of bad ideas in Washington D.C. right now.
So realize guys when I say E, I mean Government enforced market manipulation of agriculture products.
DOWN WITH E!

Re: China is after the bacon
JBS is a good one they should also be thrown out.
BTW Black sand. I hadn;t wanted to be in the MILC program. I detest Government programs. I had to enroll this year as my banker was really nervous over the amount of feed I had to buy. I enroled then the program was cut in the sequester. Was federally subsidized cropinsurance cut? H E LL NO! Hows that for fair?
Now they did just reinstate it. I did get back pmts. To our farm for the last 6 months our milc pmt. was 1200 dollars. This was to bring us up to some kinda break even on milc production. That milc pmt. bought 4 tons of hay this past 6 months. SO there ya go I do not think we are looking at an apples to apples comparison.

some perspective
The USA was an extremely wealthy nation, and still is a wealthy nation. we have policies in place....deficit spending, due to entitlements and the world's police force, negative balance of trade due to "globalization" and the resultant loss of our mfc capabilities, that are taking us down step by step. November 2012 was as clear a choice as I have ever seen as to which way we should go, and if we had the will to change our trajectory. We didn't.
THis Smithfield foods deal seems to be a big deal...a $5 billion dollar acquisition for China. We owe the Chinese about a trillion dollars. It would take 20 or so of these "really freaking big deals" (to paraphrase Uncle Slow Joe) to equal $100 billion dollars. In other words, 20 of these RFBD would only amount to 10% of what we owe to CHina, and its growing.
So be prepared to watch America keep slipping away. This is what 52% of the population voted for.

Re: some perspective
Wallymart needs China - China needs Wallymart - - the Fed prints $$$ faster than China buys bonds --- the ag 2% of the population on election day will continually be a dilution --- seems to be a very short stack in the Texas holdem tourney ---

Re: China is after the bacon
Morning Jr,
Good to know your out and about this morning. Lookin in the mirror there don't seem to be much traffic on this road this morning so I'll stop and lend you a thought----- roll the window up and ignore me at any time. If you turn and smile after that I will know there is a truck about to ram me on this back road.
I don't agree with the 'cronny capitalism' statement otherwise your right sort of... It's is one of those blame things..... It is a socialist spin trick from the old american protest/anarchy party------( college speakers in the late 60's, later to find their "heaven" in politics.) GET YOUR ENEMY to DESTROY HIMSELF. Capitalism is the foundation of our economy. Having friends (Cronny's) is a good thing. The phrase was probably launched by an anarchist politician to get us to eat ourselves. example---- women's rights----- many have been slaves to the party leaders ever since, a guaranteed unhappy voting base. 🙂
You are way too optomistic........... We are well on our way to pure "Lennin" socialistism and we will spend ourselves into nonexistance with political smiles on our faces. And the pure "trust fund" socialists will walk away and seek to try their experiment again with a new group of suckers. This is the true "religion" run amuck of our time.
Ethanol-------- government funding or enabling is never about the money, it is always about control and political gain. For the politics worshipers of this country, it is a posterchild to show the power of mankind organized behind "our" philosophy.
------------ back to the point. Leadership and purpose drives non profits are so into micro managing the economy (and your lifestyle and beliefs) that economic growth is dead or shrinking like main street business in rural america. But I am telling ya, just because one bank is all that is left on main street, It is not all that bankers fault, as we are led to believe by those who hate capitalism and love their government retirement or grant.
I like what is happening with E, but I know there will not be the political will to manage it in the future. It is so much better than rotting surplusses or millions of bushels give to starving politicians in Africa.
How many borrowed dollars have been thrown into the fan in the name of whatever do good idea garners votes to borrow more dollars. Ethanol will stick if they have to build a tower of borrowed dollars to support it. For once there are some side affects that are not totally absorbed by political organizations.----------- I am sure it won't last long.
I am tellin' ya, on my side of the road, man does not and will never control the environment-------- its political BS. The "environment" is a tough mother.
your smilin' I think-------------- truck----------- gotta go----------------------------------------

Re: some perspective
Red steele
One point You are still look at the asset list for the US. Don't forget to subtract the debt to see the real equity value of this country.
You are right on the debt to china but think about it--------------- You and I could buy the US for about 35 cents if we assume the debt.
Maybe I need to refigure-------- Maybe congress would pay us to assume the whole thing. Maybe we could set up a monthly payment plan for them to pay us to assume the debt and assets sometime in the future. Say $$ per month until the negative equity is payed off------- then we assume responsibility ----------- never
Did I just describe Social Security?
Man you and I could trim expenses in short order--------no speeches, no parades, no mondays off, no political parties--------- 🙂
