Corn Pile Search
On the way to South Podunk traveling south thru central Iowa looking for piles of corn.
Couldn't find any so thought I would stop in Woden where it should be a gaurantee!!
Can't get the pics to load but nothing on the streets and nothing in the ring north of the elevator.
Maybe those shiny silos west of the elevator have something to do with that??
Also - maybe those drowned out spots and unplanted fields had something to do with it too.
Side note: If you blow out and lose a tire off your grain cart please pick it up.
Helped an older gentleman north of town get one out of the steep ditch in front of his place,
He said it had been there for a couple weeks.

Re: Corn Pile Search
Well, we sort of had some corn piles....the largest ADM elevator here had one big pile and had started filling their other big ring....but suddenly, the partial big p8ile it has disappeared, being loaded onto rail cars round the clock, heading both north and south. huh? In a normal huge crop year, those piles would be standing through the winter months into the following spring.

Re: Corn Pile Search
Gavilon Grain Creston Iowa. The covered pile holds 1.8 million and the uncovered pile is about 2 million. Still quite a bit of corn to be harvested in this area yet.
Taken this afternoon at about 1:30pm

Re: Corn Pile Search
What is the scoop on Gavilon? Some years back it was Crestland Coop. Then I think DeBruce. Now Gavilon. Maybe some others in between.
Really sorry to have missed the party Saturday night. We were still shelling corn and now this morning we received .4 in rain. Caught me offguard. I guess the forecast did indicate a chance but wasn't expecting. I hope you all had a wonderful time, whoever could make it.
Going for a hipm replacement tomorrow so my harvesting is over, guess the rest of the crew will have to finish up. Then off to AZ in a couple weeks. The rest of you should try it sometime. Just think of the perfect Iowa October day and that is AZ winter weather. Dry and sunny.

Re: Corn Pile Search
Special thanks to Hobby and his wife for a nice evening. Thanks to those nice folks at South Podunk for an enjoyable supper.
We did find this pile by Welcome, MN on our way home. Plenty more in the buildings and bins there and the ethanol plant east of town was cooking away as well.

Correction on amounts
The covered pile holds 1.8 million and the uncovered pile is about 2 million.
I have been reprimanded and corrected.
