You live in the country with the highest drug costs in the world,  where the greed, avarice and rapacity of the drug companies know no bounds and you're complaining about the Chinese making emergency testing & production of an anti-viral drug?

  The Chinese are facing a situation where thousands, maybe millions of people may (will likely) die and you're quibbling about patents.

  If it was the same situation here in America, I'd fully expect the US government to do the same thing.  Save lives and worry about the details later.

(example --- many countries claim citizens pay nothing for drugs and never count the excessive taxation as a cost.)

  If it was the same situation here in America, I'd fully expect the US government to do the same thing.  Save lives and worry about the details later.   Big hearted of you but I would rather have the US government act according to the law the rest of us live by.....   the same logic would say,  don't spend on defense if we have to deploy lives will be lost.....  truth is all lives are lost.  What government should be about is quality of the life we have.  physical protection, freedom, legal protection, public service, etc.   Otherwise what you falsely claim about drug companies becomes true.  Patents go to the highest bidder,  communities are safe by gang protection rackets. 

The tech industry agrees with you, Patents are not important.  They use China to skirt US laws and taxation.  They readily trade patent infringment and intellectual property for profits with the Chinese government.  A much bigger threat to the us population than the latest virus.  So far looks to have the strength of another flu virus.  But then most of the information is controled by China.  We live in an age when this virus might not be naturally occurring.   But even so I expect our government to live far more honorably and legally than they seem to want to.  As the US Government and our political scum exhibited recently, they have no business manipulating health care.  At least when I open a bottle of medicine today I can be assured it is close to the product the label states ---- thanks to the manufacturer, not congress.
