Delta/southeast done w/ corn?
Information from several directions suggests the intended acres in these areas didn't get planted due to the interference of rain that stalled planting until after the preferred window for these areas. Those acres not planted will apparently go to beans or cotton. Don't know enough to say rice will benefit.

Re: Delta/southeast done w/ corn?
I'm located in central La. I was only able to plant 210 acres of 400 planned for corn. Planned 50-60 acres milo, planted none.
Wet late fall, winter and early spring prevented field work and chopping in some ruts we made at the end of harvest. Those acres are going to soybeans. Just got to late to plant corn or milo

Rebel, why is it too late to plant corn in central LA? Summer gets too hot? We have almost another month yet here in IA. before it is too late for corn. Just curious.

Temps and end of June -1st part of July tend to be on the dry side.

Re: Delta/southeast done w/ corn?
We like to be finished planting corn and milo by the end of March. Tasseling then should start by first of June. Also, fields are not suited for irrigation and are all rented

Don't they also try to harvest early to beat the hurricane season?

Re: Delta/southeast done w/ corn?
Yes another reason to plant early.
Nothing looks worst than 185bu corn flat on the ground with a foot of water on it
Hurricane gustof did that in 08 and also got me out of the cotton business. Cotton 2 weeks from harvest with nothing left on the stalk
All on the ground
